Web Hosting Support Services, Foundry Networks, Unveils IronPowered Solution

Friday, April 11th, 2008

Santa Clara - (The Hosting News) - April 11, 2008 - Performance and solutions provider for end-to-end switching and routing, Foundry Networks, Inc., and enterprise gateway security provider, Secure Computing Corporation, have entered into a comprehensive security solutions partnership.

The new alliance is designed to reinforce enterprise gateway security through web, messaging and network security. Terrence Brewton, research analyst for Frost and Sullivan noted, ”Market demand for comprehensive web security continues to grow as enterprises face an onslaught of web-based threats. However, traditional protection measures are no longer sufficient. With the constantly changing threat landscape it is critical that enterprises look at solutions to protect them from not only known threats, but unknown threats as well. Secure Computing remains a step ahead with its newest Web 2.0 protection capabilities.”

Through this alliance, joint customers benefit from fortified perimeter and internal local area network (LAN) security by leveraging interoperable and best-of-breed networking and security solutions tailored to fit customers’ requirements.

Security is critical for maximizing the availability of network infrastructures and protecting enterprises from legal risks as a result of a variety of regulations around compliance and data integrity, especially in verticals like finance, health care and government. Concurrently, the key is to have security with minimal performance degradation, which is where Foundry’s ServerIron application delivery and SecureIron LAN security switches, working in tandem with Secure Computing’s Secure Firewall (formerly known as Sidewinder) and Secure Web (formerly known as Webwasher) add value for enterprises and service providers.

By melding Foundry’s application delivery switches with Secure Computing’s Web gateway and network gateway security appliances, enterprise customers have a proven solution that can:

  • Provide performance scalability and transparent redirection for web filtering, resulting in ease of deployment and management
  • Scale throughput through the firewall gateway, which increases web services and multimedia application
  • Provide investment protection for customers on existing deployed firewalls with a scalable solution
  • High availability for Web and network gateway security with dual ServerIron deployment
  • Leverage a number of other ServerIron capabilities such as Access Control lists, IP Network Address Translation, Application firewall, Secure Socket Layer (SSL) offload
  • Protection against common Denial-of-Service (DoS) attacks

Atri Chatterjee, Senior Vice President of marketing for Secure Computing noted, ”By working closely to provide best-in-class security solutions, Secure Computing and Foundry are able to deliver interoperable security solutions that protect high-performance enterprise networks from web, messaging and network gateway threats. Through extensive collaboration, enterprise customers can be confident that the protection we bring to their network will not only provide the expected security benefits, but will not affect the high-performance and manageability that administrators expect with best-of-breed solutions.”

Bob Schiff, Vice President and general manager for Foundry’s Enterprise Business Unit remarked, ”As the Internet and web traffic continue their unabated growth, enterprises need to be even more vigilant about threats to their networks. With networks being the backbone of productivity and connectivity for businesses, it is essential that network administrators implement comprehensive, robust and scalable networking solutions that are able to identify and prevent external, as well as internal threats before they negatively affect the network and business continuity.”

Foundry’s ServerIron family of application delivery and traffic management switches is the industry leader in high availability, acceleration, security and scalability for business-critical IP, Web and Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) applications. It provides a total solution for server load balancing, application (Layer 7) switching, server farm and application security, SSL acceleration, compression, and multi-site redundancy. Secure Computing’s Secure Firewall works in conjunction with Foundry to create a ”firewall sandwich” typically consisting of two ServerIrons on the front end and two behind a bank of Secure Firewalls. By enabling ServerIrons both in front and in the back, it allows customers to balance both the incoming and outgoing traffic and provide high availability in the unlikely event of performance degradation or loss of connectivity.

The combination of SecureIron with Secure Computing’s Secure Web delivers customers advanced application-layer intelligence and network perimeter security, coupled with powerful Web filtering and Web 2.0 threat protection. Secure Web’s reputation-based Web filtering allows SecureIron to permit or deny access to a Web site, based on each company’s individual access policies. Customers will also receive top-performance throughput and a single point of control for all major perimeter security functions.

Secure Computing Corporation (Nasdaq: SCUR), a leading provider of enterprise gateway security, delivers a comprehensive set of solutions designed to help customers protect critical web, email and network assets. Over half the Fortune 50 and Fortune 500 are part of more than 22,000 global customers, supported by a worldwide network of more than 2,300 partners. The company is headquartered in San Jose, Calif., and has offices worldwide.

Foundry Networks, Inc. is a provider of high-performance enterprise and service provider switching, routing, security, and web traffic management solutions including Layer 2/3 LAN switches, Layer 3 Backbone switches, Layer 4 - 7 application switches, wireless LAN and access points, access routers and metro routers.
